The practice of some professions is restricted to licenced professionals only. For example physician, nurse, midwife and physiotherapist are licensed professions. Non-licensed persons are not allowed to practice these professions.
In Finland massage can be practiced without licensing or certain qualifications. However the Decree on Health Care professionals protects the occupational title: trained masseur, in Finnish koulutettu hieroja, in Swedish utbildad massör.
Professionals entitled to use a protected occupational title will be entered into the central register of health care professionals maintained by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira). Others are not entitled to use the protected occupational title.
